Help Us Reach 2 Million Cans!
Fun can Facts:
Americans throw away enough aluminum every month to rebuild our entire commercial air fleet.
When you throw away an aluminum can you waste as much energy as if you’d filled the can half full of gasoline and poured it into the ground.
Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a 100 watt light bulb for 20 hours, a computer for 3 hours, and a TV for 2 hours.
An aluminum can that go to a landfill lasts about 500 years before it oxidizes!
Used aluminum drink cans can be recycled and back on supermarket shelves in as little as 60 days!
When you think of the difference just one person could make, imagine the positive impact whole communities have by recycling aluminum cans to help our neighbors in need!

Individuals - simply collect your aluminum beverage cans and drop them off at one of our three can cottage locations.
Businesses - We can provide you with a collection receptacle to put in your break room or if you know you will collect a large quantity, we can provide you with an outdoor container. Let us know if you are recycling with us and we will be happy to add your business name and a link to your website/Facebook page from our Recycling Partner list at the bottom of this page!
Schools - Get students and staff involved! Customized containers are available upon request.
Event Planners - Do you have a function coming up where you will be serving canned beverages? Consider collecting cans for the Giving Garden and dropping them off to one of our can cottages OR if you would like to borrow some of our custom receptacles, contact us and we will get them to you!
The Giving Garden wins a $500 grant from Keep Virginia Beautiful!
We are honored to share that we won a $500 grant by Keep Virginia Beautiful in their "30 in 30 grant competition" in June of 2013.
With this generous award, we were able to purchase green colored trash bags which we have been passing out at our fundraising and outreach events. Through the incorporation of these designated bags we can now track our recycling outreach by recording how many of them are collected when we do pickups from our various can cottages.
In addition to the green bags, the grant allowed us to purchase 12 additional outdoor can receptacles which were handed out to new business recycling partners.
Volunteers pick up cans from our cottages and business sponsors on a bi-weekly basis.
One of our largest contributors, this business is filling up (4) 40+gallon containers every two weeks!
