Fundraising Through Recycling: It Pay$

TGGF's "Together we CAN advocate" recycling program was implemented in the Winter of 2008.  This program is the brain-child of one of our Founders (Al LaRoche) who was seeking an outside of the box approach to fundraising.  Did you know that aluminum cans are infinitely recyclable?  Since the Fall of 2008 over $3,200 has been raised through this program.  Not only does it generate revenue (of which 100% goes toward assisting local cancer patients);  it is preventing needless waste from going to the landfill.

Accounting of Recycling Proceeds: 2008 $217.03   2009  $760.30    2010 $1,852.64     2011 We're averaging $400 a month!

Want to join our efforts?  Simply start collecting your aluminum cans and drop them off at one of our Cottages.  We have two locations: The Abingdon Ruritan Club on Guinea Road in Bena (Sponsored by The Abingdon Ruritans) and Best Value Supermarket on Buckley Hall Road in Mathews to the left side of the supermarket.  We have a third cottage constructed and awaiting placement in the northern end of Gloucester County.

Businesses may also partner with us!  Simply send an email to wecan@thegivinggarden.org and we will provide you with a prefabricated cardbaord recycling container and trash bags (generously donated to us through the Aluminum Association's "Cans for Causes" program).  TGGF Volunteers will gladly coordinate a pick-up schedule if you are unable to drop them off at one of our cottages.

SPONSOR A COTTAGE! - make a $500 donation to TGGF (which covers the cost of materials to build the cottages, the labor is always free!).  In return, we will place your sponsorship signage on the cottage!  This is a GREAT way to let the community know you care!  We have TWO cottages which we need sponsorships for - the one currently located at Best Value and one which we hope to place in the northern end of Gloucester.

Our Volunteers have traveled thousands of miles collecting cans from our Can Cottages, Business partners and delivering them to Old Dominion recycling.  Pictured below, is the custom designed can trailer which Al LaRoche (Co-Founder) and Jim Leiffer built to assist in our can collections. Pretty neat don't you think?!
